About Michael Hanko
Me:
I am a 38-year-old father, husband, uncle, brother, friend, and son; as well as a tech and open source enthusiast. I’ve only got 2 items on my bucket list - change someone’s life for the better, and to leave the world a better place than I found it. Through my son, I hope to accomplish both of these, and truly believe there is no greater joy (and struggle) in life than parenthood.
I didn’t get as early a start into tech as some. I had my “go-to” IT guy in college (if you’re not that person, you know who that person is in your life), so while I had a mild interest in computers, I never dove in. I finally ended up going to school (university if anyone from across the pond ever reads this) for Business and Math.
After college, I spent a few years bartending and managing bars & restaurants. I finally started working my first office job in 2010 as an accountant, where I spent the next few years of my career.
It was during this time I started experimenting with how I could automate things in my job that seemed tedious, and how I could get the system to work “smart” for me, so I didn’t have to work “hard”.
One of these first programs I used on Windows that I still use to this day is AutoHotKey. Without question, the first thing I do on any Windows computer is download this program, snag my AHK.ahk file from Github that runs my automation life on Windows, and get to work.
My world changed when I started learning how I can automate more than just my work and discovered the Raspberry Pi.
The rest of this might be finished someday, if anyone that doesn’t already knows me cares to know more. I’ve been using this unfinished About as an excuse to not start writing. I realized that no one outside of those that know me may ever read this, and as such, am concluding this About me for now.
